“Kuruvila Jacob Initiative for Promoting Excellence in School Education” has launched “MULTIMEDIA-ENHANCED ELEMENTARY SCIENCE” in association with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) to promote critical thinking and problem solving skills of students from Classes VI to VIII, in Physics and Chemistry.
NCERT publications are used as primary sources and the lessons are prepared by a large body of teachers actively engaged in teaching science in several high schools mostly in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. These lessons are expected to cater to CBSE, ICSE, Tamil Nadu and other State Board streams of education.
In the first phase of this project, modules for Physics and Chemistry have been developed at a level appropriate to students of Classes VI to VIII. These modules can be downloaded by schools and students free of cost.
Lessons, which are organised as modules, are aimed at providing appropriate audio visual demonstrations. IIT-M has provided technical, software/human resource and cognitive support in the design and development of these modules, under the supervision of teacher coordinators, which are both interactive and often incorporate learning-by-playing strategy.
In the next phase, modules for Classes IX and X in Physics and Chemistry would be developed. Translation of the modules in Tamil is under development. For translation of these modules into other languages, please contact the Project Coordinator, Kuruvila Jacob Initiative.
Hosted for the Kuruvila Jacob Initiative by the Web Studio(Centre for Continuing Education, IIT Madras).
